Conflict / Resolution

The Prosperity Center staff and coaches of the Rockingham X-PLOSION teams have provided the following Conflict / Resolution Guidelines for staff, coaches, volunteers, parents, and players. We believe that when our youth witness adults modeling respect of authority (staff, coaches, volunteers, and parents) even though all parties involved may not always agree with choices that are made, they can learn valuable lessons about how to work through conflict in a positive manner.

Conflict / Resolution Guidelines

  • Get the whole story.
  • Avoid confrontation and deal with the issues; Be prepared to offer alternatives.
  • Always deal with the issues and not the emotions and the people involved.
  • Decide on what you can compromise on. All parties need to be willing to meet half-way in order to develop an effective solution.
  • Select short term and long term goals and monitor the progress of these goals.
  • Be sure that your solutions or resolutions are realistic and reasonable.
  • Coaches and parents must rely on each other. It is important to work out differences together no matter how sensitive the issues are in order for the players to be successful.
  • Realize that the player's interest should always be first.
  • Respect the coaches and encourage players to respect the coaches, even though everyone may not always agree with all of the decisions that are made.
