Rental Housing for Low - Income Families

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development reports that 5.4 million very-low-income households are living in substandard housing or paying an excessive portion of their income for housing costs. Families in these conditions often find themselves trapped in a cycle of poverty, creating an unhealthy and unstable environment for the parents and children. The Prosperity Christian Resource and Community Housing Development Center, helps these families regain control of their lives by providing affordable housing and supportive services..

Facts About Housing and Children's Health

• Children below the poverty line are 83% more likely to have an activity limitation (a long term reduction in activity resulting from a chronic disease) than non-poor children (US Department of Health and Human Services)
• 10% of homeless families reported that their children needed to see a doctor or a nurse but were not able to do so (1999 HUD Survey of Homeless Assistance Providers and Clients)
• 10 million American children under the age of 19 do not have health insurance (US Department of Agriculture) 
• 21,000 children are affected by stunted growth as a result of poor nutrition (The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC))
