Housing for Seniors

The Prosperity Christian Resource and Community Housing Development Center, provides rental properties with the availability of supportive services for very-low income elderly persons. The Rental Properties for Seniors is open to any very low - income household comprised of at least one person 62 years old at the time of initial occupancy. 

According to a recent HUD report, 7.5 million seniors pay more than they can afford for rent, a figure expected to double by the year 2030. Nearly a million seniors are paying more than 50% of their income on housing, and many more struggle to maintain substandard and deteriorating homes they cannot afford to repair. Half of the homes owned by seniors were built before 1960 and are aging faster than their tenants. Seniors are forced to compromise either health care or housing maintenance to be able to afford just one of these essentials.

Facts About Seniors and Housing:

• 1 in 6 Seniors were poor or near poor in 1988 (US Census Bureau)
• 7.5 million seniors pay more than they can afford for rent, a figure expected to double by 2030 (The state of the cities 2000, HUD)
• 1 in 5 Americans will be a senior citizen by 2030 (The State of the Cities 2000, HUD)
